Gumnut Gear is owned and operated by Therese Rankmore, our sole teacher and designer. Various family members have pitched in over the years, at markets, quilt fairs and behind the scenes. Therese’s daughter, Sara, is her most regular assistant. Gumnut Gear is operated in NSW, Australia.
Therese has over 30 years teaching experience, having started her career as a Fashion Teacher with TAFE. Gumnut Gear Sewing School was established in 1992, going online in 1999 with Patchwork and Appliqué patterns and kits.
Gumnut Gear caters for all aspects of sewing; from dressmaking to patchwork, quilting, overlocking and curtain making, for the beginner through to the advanced sewer. Each class has a maximum of 8 students in a fully equipped studio in Gunnedah, NSW. Classes and workshops are held regularly, with day, evening and weekend options available.
Please see the classes page for upcoming workshop information. Can’t make it to in-person classes? We also have self-paced, online courses available via Podia.
All of the patterns found at Gumnut Gear are original designs by Therese Rankmore. For a long time these designs were based on a country feel theme, but Therese is now moving towards more modern designs along with a range of scrappy projects.
